The Ants at Butler Park

In 2019, the talented crew at 220 Designs was accepted by the city of Austin to make their really cool ant concept for the upcoming Butler Park playground.

They had rough pencil sketches of what they wanted to do, but they needed someone to create 3d models of the ants and convert the models into patterns that they could cut and assemble from 1/4″ steel sheet metal.

My role was to digitally sculpt the original ants in various positions, then break them down into flat pieces and provide assembly diagrams, instructional materials, and large 1:1 stencils that could be transferred onto the raw metal sheets for cutting and assembly.
